The Only Way to Heaven

Sanctification (like justification) is not just a one-time experience that needs no continuation. To be sanctified means to be set apart as holy to God and to be empowered by the indwelling and CONTROL of God`s Holy Spirit, to whom the sanctified one must be both initially and CONTINUOUSLY YIELDED. It is the ABIDING in Christ that Jesus commands: walking in the light, following Him who is the Way. Our spiritual life is nourished only by remaining and abiding in Him, without whom we must fail. It is not just about our receiving (`having`) the Holy Spirit: it is about HIS HAVING US! Jesus compared himself to the `door` as the only way to God and to his salvation. But, more than that, Jesus called himself THE WAY, upon which we must not only set foot but CONTINUE TO FOLLOW to the end in order to receive the prize. We do not stand still and insist that we have already obtained it! We must follow faithfully in the steps of our Redeemer and Master, obeying Him who is the only true Vicar of Christ: his Holy Spirit. And so, we obey the law of Christ, summed up as the law of love, thereby growing up to reflect Him to the world. The early Christians were known as followers of the Way--which is not a `religion` but Christ himself. To become and to remain as God`s church, we too must follow that Way in obedience to his Word. He leads and empowers us as we surrender ourselves to follow and obey Him.
